You will have to register again for the new message board. Your old user name and password will not work on the new forum. I am sorry at any problems that this move causes.

On the new mian page there are two chat links - the top one is the one with all of the sounds and has to have a registration and password set up - the second line is the Gabbly Chat - if you click on it you just have to enter a name and start chatting.

I will hang out on gabbly chat as much as possible to help anyone with any problems they have in registration.

WEB Designer needed

OK guys I need some help. I am adequate at Website design and all but I am by no means an expert.

I am looking for a Computer Science Major or a website designer to help me out with laying out a new design. In return I will let you post a "Website designed by" with a link to your resume or a page describing and advertising your abilities.

Here at ClaysBamaPage we have over 2000 year round daily visitors and it goes way up during Football and Recruiting season.

The message board alone in only it's second month is going to average over 100 thousand Page views per month. I honestly think it would be a great opportunity for someone to advertise their web design skills.

I have never had a Ad on my page so this is a VERY Unique opportunity.

What I want to do is have a site that is hosted on a remote server with different scripts on it with a common menu structure. I would like to be able to tie in all areas of the site including a Blog, Message Board, Chat, and The video section. A common user/profile would be awesome that way when you logged in you could go to chat, or the message board without having to log in for each.

I imagine Perl, HTML, Flash and maybe script would have to be used.

I am looking to help a BAMA fan and at the same time help the site to make it better for everyone else.

SITE Update

I have a few things to report about my site.

First -
I wanted to point out that I have added a link at the botoom of my page for public stats. Basically - if you would like to see the daily monthly or all time stats, at least back to last August when I started tracking the number of visitors to my site, you can now click on the link at the very bottom of this page or at the bottom of the message board and check them out.

Next -
Last month I outgrew the small little tag-board that I have had on my page for a long time. It was a little place on this main page that you could ask me questions and I would apply. OGGIX the tag board company wanted to start charging me for their little message board. I figured If I was going to pay for a message board I would get the best I could afford. I checked out all of the sites and decided to go with one from web site toolbox. Fo the same amount of money I was able to add that message board to the site.

Please feel free to sign up and use it like you did the little tag board. In just over one week we have had over 50 members sign up and it looks like the message board alone will get about 10 thousand hits in JULY.

On a personal note - DANA - I would love for you to become a member of the message board.

ALSO -
If there is any BAMA fan out there that does web design and would be willing to offer hosting of this site and can offer me additional features and a little more flexibility I would be more than willing to look at a plan that you could work up for me.

Don't worry - As long as I own Clay's BAMA Page it will remain free as I realy enjoy my site. I enjoy the friends that I have made with my site and although it takes a lot of my time and a little bit of money it is something that I enjoy. I do not plan on going anywhere and actually am looking at adding a few very exciting new features to my page in the next few weeks.

It is going to be a very big year for both BAMA and Clay's BAMA Page as we will very soon offer something that no other site does - and that includes the pay sites.

Also - I am trying to get with The guys at THE Crimson Country Club. I have offered them the ability to post articles on my site and it is something that they are considering on doing.

Andre is not going to be a Dante Ellington I assure you that much, as he is way past that develpment example. If he were trained up like a Evan Mathis in couple of years this kid could be a Hall of Fame.

THere is not doubt in my mind whatsoever Taylor P. is another Evan Mathis in habits and has seen the light on what can make him a great one - one day.

Scott Hunter hosts a radio show here in Mobile and on it he stated that John Parker will break all the passing records, td records, and could possibly be the #1 QB from Alabama when it is all said and done.

He said his mechanics are second to none that he has seen at Bama before.

Scott Hunter has seen a lot of football players in his life.

Take that FWIW, but I think he'll be a good one.

Bama can forget the heisman. That will go to a player from a school that the press likes to promote such as ND or USC. Lets face it Bama is about as likely to get good press as G W Bush. It just ain't going to happen.

Not to be Outdone

With BAMA finishing up it's Stadium Expansion and "THE WALK OF CHAMPIONS" Auburn University and some guy named Boob Looud'r announced today that Auburn would be adding a new entrance to their Stadium called "THE MOST AWESOME ENTRANCE THAT IS A WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN UAT"

Evidently the New entrance will include 6 not 5 statues (like BAMA's does which features a 9 foot statue of the 4 Coaches in The University of Alabama'a History that have won a National Championship) - Evidently Auburn has decided to display 6 variants of the greatest Mascots and Deities/Idols throughout history claiming that Auburn was in Egyptian scripture - which is more important than BAMA being in the Bible.

Anyway here is a photo of one of their new 10 foot statues that will grace their entrance.

- 4 Guys from Hoover will announce on Thursday June 29th Pugh, Chapman, Murphy and Crump. Pugh is expected to go to the COW College and Murphy might delay his decision a few days and go visit Miami U. Chapman and Crump are expected to stay in state so hopefully we will hear good news.

- Rumor is that every player except Udell and Hutchins will be on campus July 7th.

- In the past Coach Shula has made any JUCO Scholly tied to a December Graduation date - SO I will assume that Ricks will have to graduate JUCO in December.

As the 2006 Crimson Tide football season looms, Alabama fans have an opportunity to celebrate the 2005 season one final time, in particular Tyrone Prothros acrobatic catch against Southern Miss.

Voting for the 2006 ESPYs is open and fans can go to ESPY voting to watch and vote for Prothros catch.

Voting ends on July 9 at midnight Eastern Time. The ESPYs, hosted by Lance Armstrong, can be seen live on ESPN on July 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

SITE Update

I have been real bust updating code on my site. I have added a lot of Video's to The Video section and added a few new features.

Video Section Update
- I have added around 5 or 6 new fan made videos.
- There are now links to Download as well as YouTube Streaming If available.

Check it out - I think you will like it. There is around 2 hours of Video and it can all be viewed by going here.

I have also added 2 Clocks. One is just a regular clock showing everyone the DATE and Time.

the other one is a countdown clock - right now I have it set to the BAMA vs Hawaii Kickoff (assuming 2pm) . As soon as we reach the start of the season I will adjust it to Signing DAY in Feburary 2007.

Lots of other little improvements behind the scenes that should help my site as far as stability and speed. If anyone has anything to suggest as far as improvements please by all means let me know.

Oh and I sure do hope we get some commitments from Hoover this week. Look for updates as soon as it happens.

I had a couple of deep thoughts after reading the article by Cecil Hurt in the Tuscaloosa news this morning.

Please be patient as I am sure there will be grammer and spelling errors.

Make no bones about it Footbal is THE SPORT at BAMA. We all know what The NCAA did - not saying we were completely innocent - Anyway One of the main things that it did was destroy our depth.

SO I ask what has coach Shula done to adress the issue of depth.

NO QB Depth - We all remember Brandon Avalos starting

Ok Point made about the depth issue.

Some people point to Line Backer as a depth problem but I think some folks will be surprised at what we have on the field at LB in 2007. We have a lot of "Tweener Safety/LB/DE types that I am sure Coach Kines will get ready. Granted some of these guys will stay at Safety or DE but still I am confident that we will be able to find at least 3 - 6 very fast guys to play Line Backer from a group that include

Next is Conditioning.
I remember when we went out to UCLA to play and watching our guys absolutely dead from being out of shape before half time. Most of us thought it would be a long season after watching that first game. La Tech erased all doubt. We have all heard the stories about the workouts being optional etc. etc. - Now it seems we are all shocked if a kid takes one day off much less the whole summer.

Recruiting
Sure we had high ranked classes in the late 90's but to be honest most of those kids were over hyped and the ones that weren't never made it into school. What's more we lost the State of Alabama. Since Coach Shula has been here he has taken back the state. Last year we beat out the top programs in the country for the #1 recruit in the Nation Andre Smith and this year this is a real good possibility that we will sign 7 of the top 10 ranked players in the state according to Rivals latest top 27 in the State Rankings. If we get 2 guys to switch their commitment we could have 9 out of 10. We have signed the player of the year from the state of Mississippi the last 2 years in Jimmy Johns and Terry Grant as well.

Discipline
Sure we have had occasional things pop up with Simpson, Hudson, Nance, Keys, Dawson, JPW, Sikes and a few others but what you don't see is Our coach blasting the kids in public. He handles it in house. And whan I say handle it - I mean it because if the kids do not change their act then they are gone. Nice to see someone put their foot down but at the same time give kids a second chance.

That BAMA fight
I have not saw teams fight like Coach Shula's teams since Coach Stallings was here. Example: In Coach Shula's 1st year his team had every reason to lay down. Fran the back stabing l!ar had walked out on them without even saying goodbye. Then just as they were getting used to their new coach he went and did the Dumbest move of a lifetime and got fired. DO YOU PEOPLE REMEMBER SHAUD WILLIAMS IN TEARS PLEADING Dr. Witt to keep coach Price. He wasn't alone, Smiley, Britt, and Brodie were up there on that stage begging too.

Time and Time again their hopes would get built up only to get Stolen away at the last second. They were told they had no chance playing Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Arkansas yet Every player left everything they had out on the field every play of every game. NO MATTER how much thay were getting beat by, they never quit. They played Tennessee and Oklahoma to the wire giving those much deeper and more talanted teams everything they could handle.

Even after a loss to "cow pattie U" somehow THIS coaching staff got them up for a meaningless game at Hawaii. Game 13 you are 4 and 8 and loosing, the refs have just given you THREE 15 yard penalties that they pulled out of their arse what did that team do? THE Defense held and just about tore the Q-Back's head off in a sack, Then not only did they block the field goal but returned it for a touchdown! Not making excuses but two of the touchdowns Hawaii scored were WAC official Gimmies. Still we had a chance only trailing by 8. The Onside Kick was perfect, WARD got his hands on the ball but.

Inches, thats what that team faced week in and week out. I WAS/AM DANG PROUD OF THAT TEAM AND THIS COACHING STAFF. Coach Shula somehow was able to get his kids to play their hearts out. That is what you want, You want your head coach to get 110% out of his players. Bear could do it, Stallings could do it, Parcells does it, DON Shula did it and guess what COACH MIKE SHULA CAN DO IT TOO. If you can get 11 players playing as one heartbeat as a team putting everything they have into every play you will win and YOU WILL WIN BIG.

It might take Coach Shula 1 more year (gasp) oh my GOD to get this cluster turned around but he will. He has proved it in his 1st year, the second and then again last year. He is doing it the right way - It has not been easy and it is not over but the final blocks of Coach Shula's Foundation are being layed into place as we speak.

I am proud to be BAMA fan, and I am proud of the direction that our program is headed.

Update--Tyrone Prothro

Word is that Tyrone will be taking the medical redshirt for the 2006 Football Season. Last report says that he is still using his cruches, however he is doing some walking on his own. His rehab is going well and he has been seen catching the football on a couple of occasions. There is talk that it is a possibility that Tyrone may play towards the end of the season, however this has not been confirmed. I would imagine this would depend on his training and rehab. On June the 29th - 10 days from now several players will be committing to their college of choice.

Alabama allready has 8 commits and if that day is good to us we could very well be very close to being finished with our class for the 2007 signing period.

The O Line class for BAMA could be huge if we are able to get Vlachos and Patrick Crump to Greyshirt. If BAMA is able to ink Vlachos and Crump to follow our #1 Offensive Line class of 2006 we would have without a doubt the most talented although young Offensive Line in the nation.

That would be a great addition considering all of the Athletes we have signed at Running Back, Quarter Back, and Wide Receiver the last 2 years. In addition it would have to make our Defensive Line better as they would get to practice against the best in all of college football. Our defensive line recruiting has not been slack either. With Lorenzo Washington, Brandon Fanney, Wallace Gilberry, Brandon Deadrick, Bobby Greenwood and others giving us one of the best fronts on both sides in College Football.

The only area that has been suspect at all in our recruiting has been Linebacker - but if you take into account some of the great kids we have been able to get as well as Coach Kines method of turning Safety type guys into very fast Line Backers you have to feel good.

On June 29th the following guys are expected to announce.

If BAMA is able to get all 7 of those guys we would just about be finished with recruiting for the 2007 class. We could focus on keeping these guys committed and start early on some high profile Juniors.

I definetly think that by August the 1st we could be full or very close to it. I also can realistically see all 7 of those guys Committing to BAMA but would not be shocked to see any of them go elsewhere.

BAMA would of course sign a few of those to GreyShirts - not coming in until Bowl Practice in December of 2007. Others that we would still be waiting on would be Golden Tate and Christian Smith - as well as Herschel Houston who some think allready has a Grey Shirt offer to play FB/MLB and of course Alen Bailey the all world MLB out of Georgia.

Take all of this in conjunction with the reports that BIG Andre is dominating summer "volunteer" workouts and Yes it could be a very good summer indeed.

More than a few folks have asked me about the number situation at Alabama. Now with the announcement of Travis Robinson and Chris Keys leaving the Team I thought it would be a good time to break it down - Understand this is the best information available to me - It may not be 100% correct but it is very close.

So lets assume that everyone that is on scholarship now remains on scholarship. Lets also assume that 19 Signees make it through the clearinghouse. Lastly let’s assume that Lowe and Martin the transfers from Michigan and Miss State are given full rides this December.

We would then have this fall
14 Seniors
16 Juniors
16 Sophomores
18 shirted Freshmen
19 True Freshmen

This falls Total Number would be = 83

In December we would add
Max Martin
Johnathon Lowe
THIS WOULD TAKE US UP TO 85

We would also be loosing off of scholarship all 13 Seniors(14 if Prothro does not redshirt) which would bring our numbers to

85 - 13 = 72

The most you can have on scholarship at any given time is 85. Now this is where it gets tricky. According to the NCAA Rules that is 85 Initial counters or maximum 25 initial counters per year. An Initial Counter is someone who is recruited. If someone is not recruited and is a Walk-On and he earns a scholarship in his first 2 years he is counted as an initial counter. If he is rewarded a scholarship after paying his own way the first 2 years he does not count as an initial counter.

Now what I am not sure about is if they still count toward the 85 if they are not an initial counter. In the case of the Bryant Scholly as long as the Player does not play the first 2 years then he is not counted toward the 85 limit. Now if that were the case then JP Adams, and Matt Colins would not count toward the 85.

But to be safe I say that we have right now 13 spots for scholarships in the 2007 class.

Now that is the most conservative number - It could be as high as 15 right now. Granted we may even have 2 or 3 MORE young men this summer ask for a transfer or just quit the team entirely. We also might not give out Schollies to the transfers or we may not have every one from the 2006 class be academically eligible - If that happens then the numbers for the 2007 class go up.

But as of right now - I expect to have a max of 13 Schollies to give out in February 2007.

Please comment - Lord knows you almost have to be a tax law attorney to understand all of this - but I default to using the most conservative approach. There may be more spots open and if so great - It will be a welcome surprise.

Understand that we already have 4 commitments for the 2007 class. Does that mean we only have 9 spots left? Well using the conservative approach yes - only 9 more but I think we sign at least 12 more. We shall see.

So lets assume that everyone that is on scholarship now remains on scholarship. Lets also assume that all 22 Signees make it through the clearinghouse and one is grey shirted. Lastly let’s assume that Lowe and Martin the transfers from Michigan and Miss State are given full rides this December.

We would then have this fall
14 Seniors
17 Juniors
14 Sophomores
18 shirted Freshmen
21 True Freshmen

This falls Total Number would be = 84

In December we would add
Max Martin
Johnathon Lowe
The Grey Shirt from the 2006 class

We would also be loosing off of scholarship all 14 Seniors which would bring our numbers to

84 - 14 = 70

Then ADD the 3 December additions

70 + 3 = 73

The most you can have on scholarship at any given time is 85. Now this is where it gets tricky. According to the NCAA Rules that is 85 Initial counters or maximum 25 initial counters per year. An Initial Counter is someone who is recruited. If someone is not recruited and is a Walk-On and he earns a scholarship in his first 2 years he is counted as an initial counter. If he is rewarded a scholarship after paying his own way the first 2 years he does not count as an initial counter.

Now what I am not sure about is if they still count toward the 85 if they are not an initial counter. In the case of the Bryant Scholly as long as the Player does not play the first 2 years then he is not counted toward the 85 limit. Now if that were the case then JP Adams, and Matt Colins would not count toward the 85.

But to be safe I say that we have right now 12 spots for scholarships in the 2007 class.

Now that is the most conservative number - It could be as high as 16 right now. Granted we may even have 2 or 3 young men this summer ask for a transfer or just quit the team entirely. We also might not give out Schollies to the transfers or we may not have every one from the 2006 class be academically eligible - If that happens then the numbers for the 2007 class go up.

But as of right now - I expect to have a max of12 Schollies to give out in February 2007.

Please comment - Lord knows you almost have to be a tax law attorney to understand all of this - but I default to using the most conservative approach. There may be more spots open and if so great - It will be a welcome surprise.

Understand that we already have 3 commitments for the 2007 class. Does that mean we only have 9 spots left? Well using the conservative approach yes - only 9 more but I think we sign at least 11 more. We shall see.

Also If Tyrone Prothro or any other Senior Red Shirts due to medical reasons then that will be one less scholly available for the 2007 class.

2007 Recruiting Board

Well I think it is about time to start looking at some of the possibilities of the 2007 Recruiting Board.

Right now we have slots for 13 Recruits. Depending on how many we loose to attrition that number could go up.

I will update the academic status of the 2006 class in a few days.

I do not look for us to sign a O Lineman unless we loose a few kids due to attrition or we can ink a recruit that is Andre Smith caliber. We have offered the Young man from Mountain Brook a Grey Shirt where he would actually sign with us in the spring of 2007 and then not join the team until Bowl Practice in December of 2008.

This is a very early list - if you see any mistakes please let me know - also once Summer camps start up we will start to see some movement. I expect because of the low numbers that we will have most of our verbals very early this year.

A-DAY Game

Well here we are the day before A-Day. The guys have done a lot. There has been improvement across the board - but make no doubt about it - The 2006 Season will only be as successful as Our O-LINE and at least 2 of those positions will not be decided until This fall.

Something for a slow day.

Here is something for a slow day.

The Football Team is off for spring break, getting a much-deserved rest. The Basketball team is off after making it to round 2 of the NCAA Tourney. The Baseball, Softball and Gymnastic teams are getting ready to make their run at a National Championship.

So with that said I thought a few pictures about how life seems to go in a full circle were in order.

A few years ago Texas A-M fired RC Slocum. He was a very good coach who ran a clean program. He held his own in the Big 12 and in the State of Texas. The Ags went out and got a coach that they thought was going to be their savior. Francis said at his press conference that he was glad that he was at a place that he did not have to rebuild for once. This was a true statement, as RC did not leave the cupboard bare.

So what did man teets do with this opportunity? Even with missing his first spring practice Coach Shula has a better record than Fran, A Cotton Bowl win, A 10 Win Season with a final Ranking of #8 in all 3 major polls and is sitting with a very solid foundation ready to make a Championship run the next 3 years. Coach Shula has steered us through the darkest times in Alabama Football history – and done a very good job I might add.

It is hard to beileve that Texas A/M dropped this great coach

Spring Update

The State of the Crimson Tide.

I need to say something about the Basketball team. I thought they played great games against Marquette and UCLA.

Coach Gotfried had them in the position to win. They had the last shot, with plenty of time to run the play they wanted, and the guy that they wanted to take the shot had the ball.

Steele had a great look and attempt. We had 3 guys there ready to rebound it. Yes the BAMA team played great. Sometimes the ball bounces the wrong way and against UCLA it was just not our time.

I am sure the guys will use this as motivation in the off-season to get bigger, stronger, and faster. If we can keep the team intact we could make a run for the final 4 in 2007. I hope they all realize the exposure a Final 4 run would give them and decide to stay around.

Hendrix has already stated he plans on coming back and Lord knows we hope Steele and JD come back as well.

Anyway – Great job Coach Gotfried, Staff, and Team.

So – What is left?

Over the next 2 weeks spring football will wind down. We will have a few more practices and the A-DAY game on April the 1st. I can’t wait to head down to T-Town for my Game DAY ritual of Dreamland BBQ, Bryant Museum, The Quad, and the Game.

We have some young guys that are stepping up and I think we are finally getting past the bitter memories of the recent past. I love all of the guys who stuck around and carried the program the last few years but I am definitely ready to move on and get to The Next Generation.

We should start to see Coach Shula’s team this year. We will not be fully recovered in numbers until the freshmen come in this fall but BAMA is on her way back to full recovery. We will still be thin in 2006 but in 2007 BAMA is coming back and we are not going to be in a good mood.

I am excited about the direction of the Football Program and I am ready for #13.

Once April gets here and A-DAY is over we have Baseball Season, which is in progress now. Can Coach Wells get us back in the NCAA Tourney?

What about the Girls Softball team? They made a run in the NCAA tourney last year, can they repeat?

And yes we have Gymnastics – which is in full swing right now. Many of the experts say that BAMA is the team to beat – Good luck to Coach Patterson and her team as they seek a National Championship for the Tide Gym Team.

Be sure to keep your eye on the Crimson Tradition website as they will broadcast several of the Gymnastic meets as well as some Baseball games. I hope that they decide to broadcast some of the Girls Softball as well.

The state of the Alabama Union is strong. With all of the improvements in our Athletic Facilities we are second to no one. We have perhaps the best Academic Center, Training Areas, Weight Room, Gymnasium, and Stadium.

Bryant Deny will be 2nd to none when we open up the 2006 Season against Hawaii. We will have the largest collection of Video screens in College football. We have a top of the line Audio System and Bryant Denny’s capacity will be in the top 5 in the United States.

It truly is a GREAT time to be an ALABAMA Fan.

Saturday Scrimmage

Saturday Scrimmage.

Things are starting to take shape. I feel better each day from the reports that continue to filter out of T-Town.

AT Safety we are going to be fine with Starters Carter and Dukes - then we will have the walk on Johnson and Reamer backing them up.

At LB we have Simpson, Jones and Collins - with Schreiber, Prince Hall, and Waldrop backing up the 1st string. Schreiber and Prince Hall are having a great spring and continue to improve. Both will see playing time next year.

We are absolutely loaded on the D-Line with Gilberry, Saundeers, Clark, Lee, Fanney, and Greenwood making up 6 of the 8 needed. JP Adams is having a great spring as well and will likely be in the rotation. We need 1 or 2 more to have a legit 2 deep of starters.

CB is one of our best positions - with Simeon, Ramzee, Grey, Rogers and Mitchell. Any of those 5 would start at any other SEC School. With the depth at CB and Safety we will see a lot of 3-3-5 in 2006 IMHO.

If you get the impression that I think our Defense will again be solid and finish in the top 5 - it is on purpose. Our Defense in 2006 will be faster, stronger, and more talented than what we had in 2004 or 2005. The only downside is we will not have as much experience. We have the kids in place to do well however.

Now lets go to offense.

We have 2 great WR's in Brown and DJ Hall.
We have 2 great FB's in Castille and McClain.
We have 3 Great HB's in Darby, Upchurch, and J Johns.

We have 3 very good TE's in Hoke, McCall, and Walker.

We have 2 Good Guards in Marlon Davis and BJ Stabler.
Caldwell and Cardwell are equally as good at Center.

Our play at QB should be adequate with JPW or Guillon. We will not have a lot of experience but we should be ok - as long as we don't let someone get a big lead and have to throw the rock around 50 times (and with our Defense I will be shocked to see anyone score over 24).

Any of those guys would be able to play at any other school in the SEC - I HAVE NO DOUBT - and most would be able to Start or at least compete for a starting spot.

Saturday Practice Update

Jimmy Barnes looked good in Accuracy and Arm strength today. I honestly think he has a better arm than JPW and Guillon.

Jimmy Johns continues to excel - had a airborne block on a LB.

DJ Hall and Keith Brown looked great catching the ball in traffic.

Travis McCall is gonna be a beast. We are definetly going to use the TE more next year.

Roy Upchurch and Jimmy Johns looked great running the ball.

Jamie Christensen kicked a 50 yarder today.

I am very proud that Alabama raised their APR score up to 916. We are doing a very good job. I am proud of everyone the staff, students, and Coaches.

With that said - I need to show you a list of the top 24 schools according to the NCAA .

Spring Practice Update - DAY 3

There seems to be a huge gap between Barnes and Guillon. Guillon will be a capable Senior Back up to JPW. I expect McElroy to be the 2nd best QB the day he gets on campus.

WR
DJ Hall and K Brown are easily 1 & 2 with Stover IMHO a sold #3. Matt Caddell is our 4th best right now with a huge drop off after that. Aaron McDaniel has a shot to be the #5 guy but don't discount McCoy, Coger, or Javier coming in and taking it this fall.

OL
Scott Deaton is coming along nicely at Guard. With Britt, BJ Stabler, and Marlon Davis we have a legit 2 deep at Guard.

I need to say that Cardwell and Caldwell are both legit "Players" at Center.

We need to identify 4 Tackles. I am sure that Andre will be one of those if he shows up in shape, Tatum and Johnson will be in there as well - Honestly no clue who the other will be - Stadler? Our Starting 5 will not be finalized this spring IMHO.

Jimmy Johns continues to excel. Coffe and Darby did not dress out but Roy Upchurch looked great.

It looks like we will be fine here as Dukes had another good day - If Reamer can come back 100% he will be a beast and Marcus Carter will have a hard time keeping him out of the other Starting Safety spot. Also do not count out Walk On Rashad Johnson - who right now is the #1 Nickel Back or the 5th DB when we go to the 3-3-5 (This was Simeon's Spot last year)

Academic Progress
The new APR will be released today around 11:00 am. By all indications we will show a lot of improvement from our 880 score of last year. Any score below 925 could cause a school to have scholarship's taken away but Larry White from the Bama AD office said we were in good standing - leading me to believe that we are above the 925 mark.

Will Oakley pulled his Hamstring again.

QB's Looked rusty - Threw a lot of INT's.

Justin Britt has been moved to Offensive Guard.

It looked good to see #35 Patrick Hanrahan out there.

Stover looked good.

Travis Sikes worked out with the will Line Backers On Friday - not at Safety.

Dukes tore up the pass skell with 3 INT's.

Coffee still injuried, Jimmy Johns looked good.

Prince Hall looked good at MLB - He also looks to have shed some weight.

Spring Football - UPDATE

Well we have all had a few weeks to recover from recruiting. Now it is time for Spring Practice.

As most of you know – It starts today.

Here are some things I am going to be looking at.

Offensive LINE – Will Caps, Johnson or Tatum completely lock down the Tackle spots this Spring.

I fully expect Andre to Start from day 1 – when he gets to campus in the fall. In His Junior and Senior appearances at the Army All American Games he completely dominated the best Defensive Linemen in the country.

That being said Tatum a Senior and Johnson and red-shirt Freshman along with Capps will battle it out for a Tackle spot this spring. Most will tell you that Tatum will start at Right Tackle and Andre at Left when we play Hawaii for the Season Opener but If Johnson locks down the Left Tackle spot this spring – I look for him to get some work at Right Tackle. He could very well replace Tatum next Fall if Andre comes to Fall camp in shape and ready to Start Left Tackle.

I am not worried about the Guard and Center spots at all. Between Cardwell, Caldwell, Marlon Davis and BJ Stabler we are solid there. I honestly think Capps will move down to one of the Guard spots and Andre and M Johnson will be the Tackles.

Running Back – We know who the #1 guys are, Le-Ron McClain and Tim Castille at Full Back and Ken Darby at Tailback. I do not expect to see those 3 get much work at all – instead Coffee, J Johns, Ali Sharief, and Huber will see the bulk of the Practice reps. Ali, Coffee, and Jimmy Johns will be battling it out for the Number 2 HB – and Huber will give it a go at Fullback. With that said I expect to see at least one of those guys change positions by the end of spring or at fall practice. Ali Sharief is a little small but could help out at LB. Huber will get plenty of reps at Fullback with Michigan X-Fer Max Martin getting a few as well. Martin – while he can not play next year will be a red-shirt Junior in 2007 and have 2 years left to play. Him and Huber could realy shore up the Fullback spot for a while if they both work out.

Defensive Back – Who will win out between Grey, T Robinson, and Lionell Mitchell at the Backup CB Spots. Who is going to emerge to take the Safety Spots? Jeffrey Dukes looks to be solid at One Safety and The other one will come down to Marcus Carter, Brunthall, and Townsend who is a Walk On. Cory Reamer will probably see some time there this fall but he is out of spring with a Torn ACL.

Line Backer is a big question that we will see a lot of guys tried out at. Darrin Mustin, Prince Hall, Zach Schreiber, Eryk Anders and just about everyone else will get the chance to earn the MLB spot. We will be solid with Simpson and Jones returning but they will need back-ups to step up and take the jobs. I wish Keys had not of broke his leg – but things happen.

The Defensive Line position is going see a lot of youth. Lorenzo Washington and Brandon Fanney will both get time at DT and Deadrick has to be chomping at the bit to get his shot at DE. Greenwood and are solid as the starters – we might be the deepest at D-Line than any other position on the field IMHO.

Wide receiver – DJ Hall, Keith Brown, and Matt Caddell are all returning Juniors and they need to step it up and take their game to the next level. Stover with 3 years to play will push all 3 for spot. After suffering from so many dropped passes last year look for us to develop a possession receiver – Oakley and Walker are my picks for this spot. Aaron Mcdaniel is perhaps the fastest guy on the team and has moved over from THE DB spot to work with the WR’s – I hope him and Oakley both can stay healthy for the whole spring showing that they can contribute next Fall.

QB – JPW is number 1 – he is far ahead of Guillon and Barnes. I hope that Barnes can get better and develop into a solid #2. Guillon will have to have some one one his heels to push him.

It will be interesting to see how Cole Harvey does at TE and Zeke Knight does at DE.

Going into the start of practice - this is how I see the Depth Chart.

Mostly old news but thought I would make sure everybody had heard all of this.

Darrin Mustin - A Middle Line Backer X-FER from Middle Tennessee State is on campus. He will participate in Spring drills. He joined the Tide last Fall and sat out the 2005 season and will be able to play the 2006 season. He will have 2 years to play starting in 2006 when he will be a Junior.

Johnathon Lowe - A HB/WR/KR Prothro type player who is a X-FER from Mississippi State is on campus and will participate in Spring Drills. He was slected for the SEC all freshman team in 2004. He has to sit out of the 2006 season but will have 3 years to play starting in 2007 when he will be a Sophomore.

Max Martin - A HB Transfer from the University of Michigan is on Campus and will participate in spring drills. He has to sit out of the 2006 season but will have 2 years to play starting in 2007 when he will be a Junior.

It has been reported that Prothro will be able to put down his crutches soon and will start to do some rehab in June.

Curtis Dawson has been dismissed from the team again due to violation of team rules. He will not participate in spring drills and will likely end his carrer at UAB.

Simeon Castille will be able to participate in spring drills.

Chris Keys and Cody Davis recently underwent surgery. Both will miss spring drills.

Markus McKnight has decided to quit football. He will graduate at the end of the spring semester.

New strength Coach Rocky Colburn is realy working the guys out hard in the lower gym.

Shari Shula delivered the couple's third child, Ryan, on Wednesday morning, just moments before one of the nation's top high school seniors, Andre Smith, announced he was signing with the University of Alabama.

Always An Alabama Legend

If you know anything about Alabama football, you know who this man is. Paul "Bear" Bryant is synonymous with Alabama, as well as winning.

Tuscaloosa is home to the Paul W. "Bear" Bryant Museum, and many former players and coaches look back at Bryant as the best coach there ever was.

23 years ago today, "Bear" passed away from heart failure, only 28 days after coaching his last game at the University of Alabama.

The media, the coaching staff, the players, and fans were all in shock and many in Alabama were at a loss of words with grief. I'm sure you can ask any Alabama fan where they were when they heard the news that "Bear" had passed away and they could easily tell you without a thought.

Just to prove how little we know is actually going on in recruiting under Coach Shula and how tight of a ship he runs

BAMA got a commit from Javier Arenas yesterday.

He is a KR / Special Teams Player from Florida.

Here is a article on his commitment.

Arenas (5 feet 10, 182 pounds), a three-year starter, also considered Florida Atlantic and Florida A&M. The first-team Times All-Suncoast player returned seven kicks (four punts, three kickoffs) for touchdowns last fall and was an effective cornerback for the Knights. Arenas has yet to see the Alabama campus but will take an official visit this weekend.

Robinson HS in Florida plays 3-A ball. That is the 5th highest level of 8 classifications in Florida. This is the same level that Tallahasee Godby plays in.

They played AJ Jones' HS (Middleton) (7-3) in the 2nd game of the year, losing 24-21. Middleton plays in the class above Robinson.

Robinson HS went 6-5 this season.

Note, they had a 290 DL go to COlorado State, so keep that in mind as you watch the film.

IMO, they played pretty decent competition, probably equivalent to 4A in Alabama.

Shaun Alexander and Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have done it, boys and girls. For the first time in 30 years, the hawks are taking thier game to the Super Bowl.

Former Tide player, Shaun Alexander led the pack with a team playoff record setting 132 yards rushing and two fabulous touchdowns.

Don't know how many took the time to watch the game, but it was pretty much a shut out from the start and I personally couldn't tell at all that Shaun had suffered with any concussion at all that caused him to miss last weeks game. Super effort from Seattle and Congrats to Shaun and the entire Seahawk nation!

I have been looking over a lot of things and I have come to a couple of conclusions.

We have 7 guys on the table with offers.

Right now if everyone makes it in and we do not loose anyone we are at(Look at the total in the bottom right corner)we ar at 85 scholarship players.

Granted we will probably loose a couple and we might not have everone make it in but regardless we are at 85.

We have a legitimate 3 deep at every position and a 4 deep at most. Yes we are very young - we all knew that allready.

Where will we concentrate recruiting next year?

LB, DT, and OL as they are the thinnest.

We are stacked at QB, HB, DE, S, CB, TE and WR. We will go out and get the best at those positions but will not have to get a certain number at any position. To tell you the truth - we are fairly stacked at O-Line next year. We are very young but all in all we are at a good level.

Right now we have 15 guys that will graduate next year - so we will only be able to sign 15 as we are now at the 85 limit. We could loose up to 10 guys off of this years committs and still be able to sign a full class next year.

We might loose 2 - the same 2 guys to either GPA or other teams. So at the most with no one leaving for whatever reason we will only have 17 spots open next year as of now.

Remeber we are supposed to offer the starting kickers next year as well. I beileve CMS to ba a man of his word and he has told these guys if they earn a starting spot as Kicker they will get a scholarship. So you could loose up to 3 of those scholly spots to Kickers

I guess what I am trying to say is we are done for the most part in recruiting. We will be super happy to get Andre, Peanut, Hawthorne, Talbert, Stevens, Udell, Goggans, and UGO but will still have a very good group on campus if we don't.

Well maybe dissappointed if Andre leaves but I think he is BAMA bound anyway. So just wanted to make it clear that we have 85 guys ready to suit it up right now - so lets stop all the whining and moaning and lets go win #13.

A friend of mine named Nepal said it better than me.

GREAT recruiting isn't just knowing who to sign it's knowing who to PASS on. I forget what SEC coach said that in the last few years, but I remember hearing it somewhere, and I agree with it 110%. Signing a kid who is not going to contribute to your program before they graduate is a complete waste of a scholarship (See: Mike McLaughlin). Furthermore, signing a kid who can contribute on ST's, or maybe in the three-deep for a year or two, can also be a waste IF the scholly could have been used on a kid who would have started for three years.

I LOVE the way recruiting is going this year, for many reasons. And one of them is that there doesn't appeart to be a "BACKUP" plan this year. CMS and staff are actually PASSING on kids who are marginal players. They're even passing on some who would could be considered pretty solid pickups.

Is there any doubt that if our talent situation was as desperate as it was two years ago, that we wouldn't have taken any or all of these players in heartbeat? Back then, we were clearly recruiting by the "warm bodies" rule - just get 'em in, we need the numbers. This year, however, is not about just "numbers" - it's about quality. There are no "back up" plans. We're going after the guys that our coaches feel like can come in and win championships, and if they miss on those guys, we're just holding that scholly until next year.

No sense signing a kid who is going to be a "project" at this point, when we can probably fill that slot with an "impact" player next year. And signing a "marginal" kid doesn't just cost you a single scholly in the next class - it can potentially rob you of FOUR YEARS of having a scholarship available for an impact player. Sure missing out on a BIG TIME recruit hurts, but signing a kid who is not going to contribute is going to hurt the team for the next FOUR YEARS. I'm very relieved and encouraged by the fact that our coaches are able to PASS on some good recruits this year.

I don't know how many of you have looked or thought ahead to 2007, but I'm sure that our staff has. And I'm sure they're aware that there is only going to be room for 15-20 schollies next year, depending on attrition. Every marginal kid that we pass on this year, is just one more "stud" we can be in on next year.

If all of the rumors are true about Auburn and Ole Miss than I would say Auburn is the school that is scared of the thumb.

What I mean is - everyone knows that BAMA has been down - It seems as though things are truely beginning to return to normal.

Bama has a man of high character that is a winner in position as The Head Coach of the University of Alabama.

Bama gets on CBS almost every week while Auburn can't even get on PPV.

Schools are turning BAMA in for Media Guide violations - something I can live with.

Other SEC "has been wannabees" are cheating again - with blatent dis-regard to rules - basically admitting that they can never beat BAMA on a level playing field.

Assistant Coaches from all over are sending in their resume's for a vacancy on our staff.

The Barn assistants are making lateral moves to real "big time" programs so that they can get a chance to get promoted - somthing they know will not happen at the Ugliest Village on the plains.

We have a head coach that gets a team to 10 wins and a Cotton Bowl Victory - having his team over achieve along the way and doing it with class.

Players from Teams we beat are quoted with stuff like we beat ourselves - blah blah blah.

We have a coaching staff that is more concerned about the business at hand rather than getting a extension signed - it is sitting on their desk waiting for the head coach to find time to sign it.

Bama assistants are being courted for higher ranking coaching staff positions on other teams thus proving BAMA is a coaching Maker not Breaker as some have tried to label us recently.

The NCAA is in Indianapolis, Nashville, etc - not T-Town.

The fanbase is bitching and moaning about a top 10 recruiting class and a 10 win season - ranked 8th both in the polls and in Rivals recruiting rankings saying that it aint good enough.

Our Senior HB telling everyone 3 days after a Cotton Bowl win that now is the time to get crunked for next year and he better see nothing but arseh0les and E1bows this off season. Pushing all of the young guys to get better.

We actually for the first time in at least 6 years have around 60 scholarship players on roster for Spring Training - giving us some real depth for the first time in - well forever.

We have a whole slew of new members on TI, BOL, and Bmag posting about all kind of crazy things.

Even the CBS announcers joke about being familar with Alabama High School programs and Our starting QB's vacation to Argentina of all places.

Bama is Back is plastered all over the covers of Sports Illustrated - creating a stir among rivals who point to that as proof of the Media's good will toward BAMA.

Our Rivals are petitioning The Rival's recruiting site to raise their players stars - so that they can be perceived to be having a better year than BAMA in Recruiting.

Teams are celebrating a win over BAMA - like it is somthing grand to behold - and truth be told - it is. We all know the Tech fans wanted to tear down Goal Post - Life just ain't fair is it?

As my Dad likes to say - Your actions is speaking so loud I don't hear a word that your saying.

Stepping back - I would say that there are some people that are very nervous at that distant sound of a Rabid group of Elephants ready to rip a new one in anyone who gets in their way. They know that BAMA is back and are pulling out all the stops to try to remain above us.

BUT - Character, Hard Work, Discipline, Teamwork, and Heart can't be bought and paid for. We all know that championships are earned - they are not given away - it's the size of the fight in the dog - not the size of the dog in the fight.

Great things are happening at the Capstone - and I for one am Damn Proud that I am alive to be a small part of it.

As you can see there were a few changes last night.

I stayed up all night and worked on the code so that it will work with all Browsers. FireFox users rejoice - as Clay's BAMA Page will now work for you. I adjusted the colors and went from a 3 column layout to 2 columns.

I think it looks much nicer.

Game Changing Performance

Tyrone Prothro's amazing catch has won Pontiac's Game Changing Performer of the year as announced last night during the Rose Bowl.

Pontiac will donate a check for $100,000 to the University's general scholarship fund in Prothro's name. The Crimson Tide football team has been responsible for $150,000 worth of donations to the University's general scholarship fund this season. Alabama garnered five different Pontiac Game Changing Performances this season, receiving $5,000 for each honor and senior linebacker DeMeco Ryans earned an additional $25,000 for the general scholarship fund at Alabama when he was awarded the Lott Trophy given to the nation's outstanding defensive football player.

A Sweet Ending-30th Bowl Win

Ah, yes, the glory of a win. Not just any win, but a bowl game win. Yeah, so it wasn't pretty but a win is a win no matter how you get it.

Jamie Christensen pulled off another win with his career best 45 yard field goal after missing a 39 yard attempt, and a blocked attempt. How he does it, I really don't know, but he manages to pull off what would make you think he couldn't pull off. Once again many thanks go to Jamie for pulling off what many thought to be the impossible for the third time this season.

LinBen's Prints was started as a hobby.

As with my very own Clay's BAMA Page LinBen has found a niche and lots of good folks wanting to buy one of his prints.

Owner Operator Derek Dugan says "It's been keeping me busy for the Christmas season, but I'd like to keep it going for a while.

I agree. Each Print comes framed, and in the case of the SI cover on BAMA's National Championship in 1992 autographed by Derek Lassic. The quality is very good.

I got one for me and one for my dad.

I know it's a little late for christmas shopping - and I wish I would have got around to giving LinBen's a plug a little sooner - but he is a BAMA fan and all around good guy.
