Curtis Dawson
Began his weight training this morning- Sat.
He and his family have no ill feelings toward CMS as he was very fair but firm they told me. Curt broke team rules, and his academics mostly the first semester were weak. Second semester much better. I was his Personal Trainer before he went to Bama out of HS although he had some minor injuries that prevented him from really getting into it like I would have liked him to.
His dad called me Friday night before the story broke and was up front about the whole thing- Curtis made some mistakes kids often times do when they leave home for college as a 18 yr. old- class attendence etc. His dad had always kept his hand on Curtis but as we know when they go to college they are on there on mostly. Curtis did not handle the adjustment well. He is very socially liked and makes friends easily which is not necessarily always good.
He wanted to redshirt last year and not have the pressure of playing and to give him a time to find the position he would play and improve his physical development which was not that bad for a frosh. Now that we know he is going to play down at DT he will train accordingly- some bigger and much stronger/faster. He is 6-2 270 right now and runs 4.79 40 fastest DL at Bama he said. I would like to see him at 295 and just as fast with same speed but powerfully strong.
Curtis has every plan to be back at Bama maybe in Jan. and the coaches have told him he can comeback - he just has to do what CMS and coaches ask of him and he fully intends to and take his Redshirt this year. He and I think it will be best for his NFL possibilities as he needs time to get where he needs to be physically to wrestle with 300 pounders.
He is not in the kind of shape based on our workout today I would like to see him approaching a season- and could have started at DT too. He is appreciative of a second chance opportunity and is determined to make it work- his parents said he will return doing what he is supposed to do meeting all team rules.. I believe his Dad. He has very good family support and I think it will be the difference in this.
IF he is as diligent as I hope he will be, he will return much Stronger and faster than he is right now. He knows that and I think would tell you that- we have at least 6 months and maybe 12 months to train him with a personally designed routine. He plans to take basic courses at a JC meanwhile to stay on track with his schoolwork- likely Jeff. State CC.
He will be warming up this first month doing high reps with the Lifts we will be doing in future months, conditioning for the following 5 months of heavy lifting in our pyramid system.Tiderinsiders need to just pray for him and his spiritual life and his mental commitment to training cause if he does what I would like to see him do regularly the physical part will not be a concern. It is up to him, but he needs your prayers right now.. Rodney at TI is famaliar with our training routine and I think would agree.
He is a great personality, just a little wounded right now and embarassed, but if he handles it right it could be the best thing for himself and the team imo. He told me the DL will be good in his opinion- worry about the OL he said.
