The D Line

Posted by TI on August 10, 2005

Dad check this out! From Rodney Orr the TI guy.

A very impressive looking group of defensive linemen…

First let me say that I noticed different Buddy Wyatt yesterday as he put the DL’s through drills. Normally a fairly low key guy, Wyatt was laying down the law yesterday. He let them know who was running the drill and several times made guys repeat drills (poor Byron Walton and Lorenzo Washington).

Washington looks like a million bucks. Outside of Antwan Odom, he might be as impressive looking physically of a defensive lineman that’s come through here in the last seven years (of course, when Anthony Bryant had his weight somewhat under control, he was a freak). Zo has a great, solid build with a big rear end, which is a sign to me that he’s going to get bigger. He has the look of an inside guy, which, given the needs, would be huge.

Bobby Greenwood is another one with a great build and room to grow. He showed a lot of athleticism in the drills.

Really, I was surprised with the explosiveness Brandon Deaderick displayed in some of the drills. In one particular drill where the linemen had to leap over tackling dummies (which were lying FLAT on the ground), Deaderick looked like a jack-rabbit.

Brandon Fanney looked real good too. I didn't watch him quite as much, because I'd already heard positive things.

As for Byron Walton, well, the big guy was hanging in there. He was gassed a little bit early on, but that’s to be expected. He moves a little better than I expected he would based on his 40 time.

All of this said, whether these guys will be good players or not, I have no idea. Only time will tell. But the initial impression is a very positive one.
More later...
